Casting

At the moment with the idea I currently have I will require a male acotr to play the centeral protagonist, and a female charcter to play the victim of the crime. However if I were to undergo the concept of the situation, where the protagonist thinks two characters are engaging in an illegal exchange then a further two male actors will be need, excluding the need for a female. Extras may also be required depending whether or not I commit to a certain aspect of my idea.

Central Protagonist

I aim to make the main male character have an influence of inter textual references from superhero characters, portraying a mix of Clark Kent from Superman and Peter Parker from Spider Man. Based slightly on the actors that currently play these characters, Brandon Routh and Tobey Maguire, as it will add further intertextual references to my production. So the actor will need to have certain traits, firstly being they will have to have the correct aesthetic for when the character isn't dressed in the superhero costume. So they will need to be able bodied, have dark brown or black hair (however any shade of brown hair will suffice), Caucasian, slender in figure and look of a mature age yet due to the minimal casting opportunites a character within the age range of 17 to 18 would be adequate. As well as this the character will be portrayed as a stereotypical nerd/geek, but not to over the top, and will either speak in an American or Southern accent. This isn't vital however if the film were to be screened on a larger scale it would help to create greater foreign appeal if the accents were recognisable. Next the actor who decides to take this role will need to be willing as this is a key aspect to my final outcome at A level so lack of commitment will be frowned upon. They will need to be readily available and do what is required to make the concept come to life. For example the male actor will need to act comical when necessary but serious as well.
If no one fits this brief outline I would be willing to take the part myself, however filming and staring in the film will mean i would have to get another peer to film and in doing so loose aspects of creativity.

Female Character

Again this character will be based on inter textual references from the same films as the male character: Spider Man and Superman. Female character therefore will be based loosely around Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson.
However I could also use the stereotypical blond character from the spoof genre. Therefore the actress's who may be able to play this role could have either blond, ginger or brown hair. They will need to be Caucasian, able bodied as some form of physical activity will be required, look older than they actually are but again with brief options anyone in the age range of 17-18 will be fine. Also they must be able to put on the same accent that the male character has to to create various similitude, either an American or posh Southern accent.
Finally commitment, they won't be required to play a crucial role so it wont too time consuming however if factors such as human error occur retakes may be a distinct possibility.

Secondary Male Characters
These character may not be required depending on which concept of my narrative I follow.
I want these set of characters to portray either an American gang stereotype or a British youth stereotype, to decide I think audience feedback may be requested. Again will need to be able bodied as they will be engaging in some conflict, race ins't an issue yet the actors will need to be able to put on accents and appear suspicious in their body language.

Extras
May not be needed however at this stage of production volunteers would be more than welcome. If I go with the concept where everyone else is wearing superhero outfits then all will be needed of the extras is for them to walk around in the background and perhaps walk in front of the camera to give a sense of social realism.
So this position is open to anyone who is willing to dress up.
This role may also require the actor to be in bed with the central protagonist at the start of the film

Overall Casting
My overall cast consists of four different actors. These being

  • Daniel Sullivan
  • Daniel Bullen
  • Helena Beeson
  • Tobias Hampson.

Danny Sullivan

Both Daniel Sullivan and Bullen, were chosen for the role of the central protagonist, Daniel Sullivan was first choice though as he was more readily available and his room was perfect for the opening sequence. However with other commitments he wasn't able to be there the entire time, so Daniel Bullen provided as a stand in. This won't effect filming as the character is wearing a costume so his identity is masked the entire time.

Helena Beeson plays the role of the female character who has her bag stolen, she doesn't play a key role in the film, however is necessary ro make the narrative understandable. Also she meets the description of Lois Lane from the Superman franchise.

Tobias Hampson is used as the secondary male character, who is accused of stealing the female characters bag. I chose him as the actor to play this role as it create the stereotype of young Caucasian males who dress like the American gangster scene. This actors plays this role very well and when it comes to the fight sequence I'am sure he will make it look effective as possible.

I will also be making a cameo appearance as the male character, which appears to be in the central protagonists bed. This will all be explained in the final idea.

As a very late edition I decided to include a voice over which was partially due to feedback. This role was played by my teacher Dave Burrowes, who was chosen due to his loud and abrupt voice, which would project to the audience clearly.
